The grave, which was dug close to < the house he lived in; is I lined temporarily with timber, it being the intention of the natives to have a bricked vault constructed in which the coffin will rest. A very large number of,natives was present at the burial, which was conducted by the Revs. Hauraki and Simon, the service of the Church of England being read. MrG.T. Wilkinson, native agent of Otorohonga, was the only representative of the Government present. The deceased chief leaves only an: child, a daughter, who is to be married soon to Teti a brother of Mahuta's. His brother, Geo. Selwyn Te Wheoro, will now occupy a place of first rank among the tribes (Ngatimaho and Ngatimahuta), who. revered the Major as itheir trusted arid honored chief.
