CARTERS WILLING TO EETUEN TO WORK. LUMPERS CALLED OUT AT NAPIER. TRAMWAY HANDS DISCHARGED. MORE RAILWAY HANDS DTS MISSED. PICKETS WITHDRAWN. VIGILANCE COMMITTEE APPOINTED. Thk members of the Auckland Carters' Union now out of work appear willing to return to their employment after their brief experience of the strike. This morning a meeting of employers was held to consider a letter on the subject from the secretary of the Union, Mr Kirknp. Strike matters iu other respects are unchanged.
The Tramway Company has discharged sixteen hands owing to reduced traffic and the difficulty of getting fodder. Wellington, Last Night. The Unionists, in place of retaining pickets on tho wharf, have formed a yigilence committee to watch over their interests. , As the strike is being prolonged, acts of personal violence begins to bo recorded. Several assaults have taken place lately, the perpetrators of which am not known. The men who were arrested yesterday were before tho Coart to-day, and remanded. Napieh, Last Nieht. The lumpers nnd othisrs engaged in loading the Star of Victoria with rp.aon mutton were called out by the Maritime Council. A lanre body of men came in from the Tomoana freezing works and the work of loading went nn uninterrupted, bo far as working the shipping at Isapier is concerned, the strike is regarded as collapsed. ... , Chiustciiurch, Last Jsight. Four of the permanent members of the Railway Servants' Society, Messrs Winter, Klvines, Newton and Owen, were called in this morning before Mr Gow, traffic manager, Mr Burnett, engineer, and Mr Ronayne, bv direction of the Commissioners, and were asked (1). to sign a declaration to refrain from inciting or urging other employees to disobev thn Commissioners commands (2) to resign, (3) or to be dismissed. They declined the first two courses, and were immediately dismissed with a fortnight's pay in lien of notice. IJUXKDIS, Last Night. The boycott is withdrawn from the shore. .. So far as the carters are concerned all Mr Dnfhie's men turned \\\i this morning and expressed their willingness to do any work they were set to without question. Mr Bines, Secretary to the Carters Union states that he Ins seen the advisableness to keep the boycott entirely off the shore, and confine it to the wharves. Houaiit, September 10. Tho Mouowai is discharging with free labour.
