NEW ZEALAND FLAX.

ENCOURAOING REPORT. fllY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Wellington, Last Night. At the meeting of tho Chamber of Commerce, the President read extracts from a letter received by his firm from a London correspondent on New Zealand hemp, as follows: — Ono of the United Kingdom rope-makers has been telling us that he has recently, and for the first time, used some pretty fair New Zealand hemp to make twine for an order previously filled with Sisal and Manilla. He is very pleased with the results, and indeed tells us (and he is probably the best rope-maker in the United Kingdom) that he finds New Zealand hemp is turning out hotter than sisal or manilla. He urges millor? to improve the quality of tho fibre, so that the industry mißht become a permanent one."
