[by ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT. 1 Melbourne, March 27. The influenza epidemic, which is spreading throughout the colony, is of the Russian type. Prisoners in the local gaols have been attacked by the disease, and 6S cases have already been reported. Inthienzi has broken out on board H.M.s Orlando. Two Victorian naval officers have been appointed to posts iu the Australian Squadron, and will undergo five months' training. The appointments were made by the Minister of Defencc in consequence of an official statement by Admiral Scott that he had no objections to local officers joining warships for short periods where accommodation could be provided. The colony will be represented at the Mining Exhibition iu London. A rich reef has been discovered at Camden Harbour. Some of the stone obtained has assayed a hundred ounces of gold to the ton. Sir Henry Norman, Governor of Queensland, has consented to remain in Queensland for the present.
