(by electric telegraph.—copyright). Brisbane, March 20. The bottle found on the coast containing a slip of paper that the barque Enderby had been wrecked is regarded as a hoax. Sydney, March 20. A serious accident occurred on the railway to day. Mrs Parsons, the wife of a settler at Penrith, was attempting to cross the line, when the buffer of an approaching train caught her arm. She was dragged round under the engine and cut to pieces. Death was instantaneous. The Australian bishops are sitting to elect a Primate. A difficulty has arisen through only one name having been submitted, that of the Rev. Saumarcz Smith. The ordinance requires that there should be three names. It is suggested to procure advice from England. The meeting adjourned till to-day. Later. The meeting of bishops to-day resolved that it would best serve the interests of the Church by concurring in the election of Canon Saumarez Smith to the Primacy of Australia. The committee endorsed the resolution. March .">l. An attempt was made last night to destroy a stable in which dynamite had been placed. An explosion led to an examination of the premises, when eight charges of dynamite were found in the wall. There were a hundred horses in the.jbuilding at the time. Melbourne, March 21. During a quarrell on the street one man struck another with an umbrella. The point entered his eye, and pene trated the skull, and he died shortly afterwards. News has been received from New Guinea that the. savages murdered all hands of the cutter Isabel and then urnt the vessel.
