[by telegraph—own correspondent.] The Regatta.
Auckland, Friday Night. The betting on the w.aleboat race to-day is 3 to 2 against Waiteinata, 5 to 2 Outsiders, 5 to 3 North Shore, 3 tg 1 Hauraki, 4 to 1 Nelson, 51 Manakau. The outsiders are rapidly coming into public favour. The Waiteinata are in the pink of condition, but seem somewhat overrated, owing probably to the enthusiasm of their own supporters. The North Shore are in good toi'in, and are well trained. Lumpy water will favour both North Shore and Hauraki, and although Waitematas have the pick of two boats, they will certainly have a better chance insmooth than in rough water. The Outsiders should make a hard struggle for the foremost place, but they will not take kindly to lumpy water. Nelson and Manukau may keep tilings lively for a short time, but I do not think either crews can keep up the necessary pace till the finish. The Star's tip is : North Shore, 1; Waiteinata, 2; Outsiders or Hauraki, 3.
