THE TRUNK RAILWAY. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday.

This afternoon the Minister of Public Works received ft telegram from Mr W. Butler, Native Lands Purchase Commissioner, statin? that the two chiefs, Topia Turoa and Wiremu Turua, who had previously refused to sign the deed of sale for a block of land in the King country along the route of the North Island Trunk Kailway, had now done so, and that arrangement* for the purchase of the block by the the Government were completed. The block is known as the Waimaranui, and contains 40.000 acres of fair land. The Public Works Department have in good course of progress a- road from Pipiriki, a village some distance up the Wanganui river, to Ohakone, a point where the Trunk Railway touches this road. It i* about the southern boundary of the Wairuaranui block, and when contracts for the North Island Railway are again progressing most of the material for the interior parts under construction will be sent to Pipiriki up the Wanganui river by n specially imported steamer, and thence by the newly formed road to Ohakone.

Mr S. H. Lnkin of Tikitapu bush has an interesting adrertisemcnt in this issue. Mr Lakin makes a considerable income from his splendid collections of ferns and other curioaities of New Zealand which are eagerly sought after by the tourists. Visitors to the Tnupo district can safely bo recommended to put up at the Taupo Hotel, of which Mr T. B. Noble is the genial host. Very comfortable) quarters can be obtained there. Special attention is directed to Mr James Mjssen's now advertisement in this issue, re new shipment of boots and shoes. Several alterations appear in the usual stock auction adyertisemtnt. •
