WELLING FOX, Thin *day. The Seuior Four-oar Ontiigticr Race, whici was postponed fiom jestei day's regatta, was rowed this afternoon. The following crews competed : — W.tkatu Rowing Club (Nelson), Union Rowing Club (Christchuich), Star Boating Club, (Wellington), Wellington Rowing < lub, and Canterbury Rowing Cmb. After a good race with the Union, Wakatti won by a length and a-half, Canteibury Rowing Club third, Star fourth, and Wellington last.
WOODVILLE, Thursday. A murderous assault was committed by a Chinaman at the Taniaki Hotel, Tahoraite last night on the waiter, a man named Joe Wright. The Chinaman attacked Wright with a slasher, inflicting two severe wounds on the back of the neck and one on the top of the head. The injured man was taken to Woodville, where Dr Fushell dressed the wounds, which are not so serious as at first believed. The Chinaman has been arrested.
CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. James Hamilton was committed for trial to-day on a charge of obtaining wines and spirits to the value of £114 from W. J. Taylor, merchant, of Christchurch, under false pretences.
GISBORNE, Friday. Mr Locke, M.H.R., addressed his constituents last night, and received a vote of thanks and confidence.
