PROSPECTING IN THE KING COUNTRY.

The following messages from the Herald's correspondent at Mokau was sent from Alexandra on Tuesday night :— A larga meeting of native obstructionists to the gold prospecting was held yesterday at Wahamu's lesidence, Mokiiu. Wahaniii, Mr Ormsby (the Chairman of tha Native Committee) and the prospectors were also present. The meeting condemned the action of the committee in taking immediate accion re prospecting, and pleaded their total ignorance of the ai rangeinents submitted to j them for their approval. After the terms of agreement had been read over to them by Mr Ormsby, Wahanui addressed them, and expressed his approval of the action taken by the committee. He pointed out tha benefits they would derive if gold were disco* ered their land, and also their action in ane-ting the prospectors, and told them that the prospecting should go on. After considerable discussion the obstructionists agreed to withdraw their opposition, and t<> allow the prospectors free access to any portion of their lands. All parties leave Mnkati to-morrow for their different district"*. There is no doubt whatever that if it were not for Wahanui's influence being used in the prospectors' favour prospecting in the King Country would be a thing of the future. .
