TE AWAMUTU.
The first meeting of the newly-elected town commissioners was held in the Volunteer Hall on Saturday evening. Present: Cra, Walton, Teasdale and Bridgman. The first business was to appoint a chairman. Or. Walton was elected. The chairman stated that ho had leceived a letter from Crs. Mandeno and Wright, stating that owing to certain irregularities in the late election, it would be better if the whole of the commissioners would lesign in a body and so save expense, to which he had replied that as this was the day for the fir&t nieeeting of commissioners they could introduce the subject there, and that for any irregularities which might have taken place, they and their supporters and the returning officer were alone responsible. Resolved on the motion of Cr. Teasdale, " That as tho&e two commissioners had not attended, and no ex pi ession of opinion by the electors was before the meeting:, the commissioners (present) should not resign, but that they would be willing to do so on a request signed by a majoiity of the electors." The meeting then adjourned till Wednesday, 19th inst., at 7 p.m.— (Own Correspondent.)
