ALEXANDRA.

Tawhiao and the other members of the Maori mission who accompanied him to England have not as yet given any public account of their trip. Numbers of natives were present oh Thursday and Friday last at the (settlement, but nothing was done but dance and song. It appears that; in deference to Topia Turoa's wishes, the king will not hold a meeting until the arrival of Topia's people fiom Taupo and other places, who are now en route here. On Friday a subscription list was opened, 01 rather money was collected on behalf of Major Te Wheoro and Skidmore, who were left in England. The money to be forwaided is to bring them home, as the Major is said to be shoi t of funds. The concert in aid of the school libraiy was well patronised on Friday evening last. Mr H. Haller, chairman of the school committee, presided, and in the interval presented the certificates and prizes won by the. various scholars, as published by you recently. The programme was :—Burlesoue Quadrilles, Misses Sage ; chorus. " lather John," school childien ; chorus, "0, tho Pretty Wayside Well," school children ; song, " Tell me where do Fairies Dwell," Misbes Layne and Wilson ; piano solo, Miss Stunner ; chorus, " New Mariners," school children ; piano solo, " Success, 1' Master E. Aubin ; trio, " Put me in my Little Bed," Mibses Wilson, Stunner, and Finch ; chorus, " Sunny Hours," school children ; song, " Fairy Redowa," Miss Aubin j spng, " Fifty Years Ago," Master F. Jones; chorus, " Hours of Evening," school children ; The whole was most creditably gone through by the children under the conductorship of the musical instructor, Mr Bell. After the concert a charade was acted by the soholars in qosfeuine, which caused considerable amusement. Mrs Aubin and Miss Allen gave valuable assistance at the piano. The usual dance followed, which was most numerously attended. A cricket match, the fiist of the season, \yas played here on Saturday last between the Hikurangi aud Ifihikihi Clubs, the local club having collapsed. The play on both sides was decidedly good, especially so on the part of the Hikurangi Club, as they have no ground to practise on. As time was called before the conclusion of the match) on the result of the first innings, I presume, Kihikihi can cla{m the victory; had the match been played out the result might, however, have been different. Mr Fit7,patrick captained the Hikurangi team, and Mr Valder the Kihikihi men. At 2 o'clock both teams sat down to an enjoyable hinqh at Mr Finph's Alexandra Hotel, and refreshments were provided on the ground during the match. The following are the scores :—: —
