TE MAT A.

One of the most successful and pleasant gatherings which we have had for a long time was held here on the 14th inst. Blue ribbonism has been making great progress in this district. Nearly all the young people resident here have become converts to its principles, and the adults wishing to show the children that they should have their sympathy and encouragement in the course they had adopted, decided to give them a picnic and tea meeting. The picnic was numerously attended, there being nearly a, hundred persons, young and old, present. The usnal games were indulged in until evening, when an adjournment was made to the school-room, when & bountiful repast was partaken of. A meeting was subsequently held, of which Mr Paris acted as chairman. He delivered an interesting opening address, dwelling principally upon the progress and principles of blue ribbonism. Owing to family bereavement he was sorry to have to present an apology from Mr W. Duncan for being absent, who was to have delivered an address. Mr D. Burns then sang a 'song, The Rev. Mr Barber then gave an account of some of the evils which he had been witness of in tho old country arising from intemperance. The Misses Gilmour gave tome musical selections during the evening. — (Own Oorresponbent).
