THE PUKEKURA LICENSING PETITION.

At the Hamilton R.M. Court yesterday, Mr Northcroft delivered judgment in this case, which was heard at Cam budge last week. It will be remembered that the petition was iiled to upset the recent election on the ground that a number of ratepayers had voted for only four candidates. The case turned on the interpretation of the word " only," the act stating that the names of " only five candidates should remain unerased on the voting paper. Mr J. P. Campbell, who appeared for the committee, contended that these words meant " not more than five," while Mr Hay, for the petitioners, argued that they meant '"not less "as well as "not more." His Worship delivered judgment yesterday, dismissing the petition with costs, £2 2s.
