At the inquest 1 " on the boy Wain, medical evidence showed that death was caused by tuberculosis. The coroner, in summing? up, directed^ the jury ithat ysthey^ must' bring in a <vercly;t of death/ fromg natural causes/ reflqctiifg gnithe gro^slyj iuhuhttin treatment of the child by its parents. The jury brought in a verdict^ at first that death was caused by disease above mentioned, accelerated and induced by ilUtreatment;and neglect ointhe^ part' of tjie Jfatheij And' /stepmother ; bu'tf the coroner pointed out that this was equivalent. to a verdict^ of murder. The jury then reconsidered their verdict, and eventually .found that the.cUUd died frqm j natural causes, adding a rider that he had been subjected to gross brutality and illtreatment. ------ Last Night. Information has been received that two men have been killed and others injured by a fall of earth at Stock and Clarks contract at Hindon/ No particulars are to hand. , The Treasurer has been asked to visit Lawrence and deliver an 1 address .there, and has replied that he will do so, if tivu'e will permit, butjie ( fears that he will, not be able to do soo n this visit. Mr Fish does not intend prppounding a rival scheme, but merely to criticise Major Atkinson's lust address.
