Tlferew'ere present :Mr Wells (chairman), Civs. Johnson, Hewitt atid Nixon. The engineer, Mr Hosking, was also present. I The Chairman, in opening the proceedings, briefly related the object of tfre meeting. He had called them together having learned from the clerk, Mr J. P. Thomson, that Mr Hewitt's canvass among the rat6payers had been a most successful one. , All ,upon, whom ,he had waited had, with only < one" exception,', signed the petition. He (the chairman) now thought that, seeing the canvass had beeu attended with such satisfactory results, it would be necessary to take some further" steps in the matter in'tlWway of the engineer taking levels and getting iribre' certain" "data' for the board'^to goupon.—After some further discussion it was agreed, on the motion of Cr. Hewitt, seconded by Cr. Johnson, " Tliat the engineei>bc instructed to prepare the necessary d t ata fot conkiltation- With the consulting engineer." It was further agreed on the motion of Cr. Hewitt, " That a special meeting, of the board -be .held on Friday evening, the 29th inst., for the s ! purpose ot authorising the construction^ [ of water works, and adopting a proposal for a special loan of £3000." This motiou was unanimously adopted.
