L-; to Ll7 ; and a good weight carrier, Liq ss; Ariel, the well-known son of Dainty Ariel out of Una, was offered and was started at L3OO, the bidding then quicklj ran up to L 345, at which sura he was passed, his owner requiring the sum of L4OO. At the haymaikct sale of hides, skins, and tallow, on Tuesday, August 23rd, hides brought from ?} to 4& the lb ; full woolled station skins, 3s 8d to ss sd each ; halfbred fleece wool, 7^d to 8i the lb. ; tallow, 22s 6d the rwt At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows of moderate quality were abundant, and at low values, from L 5 to L6 10s each; store cattle numerous, •with an indifferent demand, and the greater part withdrawn. Of those sold —grown steers brought LSSs; 18-months-olds, L 3; dry cows, L 3 ios. Fat cattle in moderate supply, and generally light wciffhts. Prices very irregular, and varied from 225*030* the loolbs. Fat sheep were in less than average number, and at last weeks values ;

wethers brought from 1 28 to zos each ; ewes < in lamb, 12s 3d. Pigs plentiful, and in fair inquiry. Messrs. Hunier & Nolans Weekly Report.— Hordes: There lias been a marked improvement in the market, both as to the number offered and disposed of. A large number were entei cd at the Durham yards on Friday for dispos.il by auction. Competition w.is good throughout the sale, and nearly all were disposed of. We quote —Hacks, L 6 10s to Li 4 losj medium draught, L 22 to L2B 10s ; draught, L 36. Cattle : There has been an increased supply. Dairy and stores have been without alteration in value, and there was a slight upward tendency in the price of fat beasts At the Newmarket sales there was but a moderate muster of dairy and store stock, but fat beasts were in full numbers, and really well fatted beasts were keenly competed for, and 30s per loolbs obtained ; but animals not so well up in condition sole relatively lo\ser. vShccp : There was a good number yarded on Tuesday, at Newmarket, and for one lot the reserve could not be scathed, and they were withdrawn, and the consequence was an advance in price forthebalance. Pigs : Few yarded, with last week's prices.
