WHATAWHATA.

There was a meeting of the Committee appointed to carry out the arrangements for the opening of the Bridge held at Kellow's Hotel on Saturday afternoon. The following gentlemen were present : Messrs Anderson, Lindsay, Day, Limmer, Edgecumbe and Corboy. After some discussion, it was agreed that the opening celebration should take place on Wednesday, April 20th, as this date would allow time for parties who had gone to the Te Awamutu Review to be back again to take part in the ceremonies at Whatawhata. The following names were added to the committee : Messrs E. and T. Y. Fitzpatnck, J. Knox and J. Hodgson, and the secretary, Mr Boler, was instructed to advise them on the subject. The Committee agreed to canvass their several districts to defray the expenses that would be incurred in many different ways in connection with the celebration. It \va3 suggested to obtain the services of the Hamilton Band to lend eclat to the occasion, and the only difficulty that presents itself is the question of transporting them to and fro. However, it is more than likely that the Company will lay on a steamer from Hamilton ; and as it will be a holiday week, no doubt it would be well patronised, especially if it can be arranged to leave early the following morning with the visitors who had remained for the ball. Tickets for the dinner will be forwarded to all members of the various local bodies in this and adjoining districts, and every exertion will be made to collect as many people as possible. Some eight or ten complimentary invitations will be issued to include the contractors, officials, and the members for Waipa and Waikato. As this work has been entirely due to the exertions of our member, it would be a fitting opportunity for him to address his constituents, and he could hardly wish for a better platform than the fruits of his own labours, the Whatawhata Bridge. — (Communicated.)
