New Plymouth Saturday.
The Parihaka meeting closed last night. The number of natives pi-esent was estimated at 800- Tohu and Tawhiti both spoke , and were both very earnest in thoir exhortations to their followers to restrain themselves under the provocation given them, and keep peace. They said that the ODly way they could succeed in the undertaking was to avoid war, no matter wdat provocation was given them. A great deal of Scripture language was used, and the Natives were told that the prophecies which related to the end of the world alluded to the present world. Only those who are followers of Te Whiti, will, they say, partake of tho advantages which will be delivered to the Natives by our Lord at the world's end, and although they were troubled with invasion the burden was light in comparison with that carried by their adversaries. The Natives had proved themselves superior by avoiding war, and if they continued to do so they would be successful.
