[BST telegraph.] NAPIER, Thursday. TllJt annual race meeting of the Hawkes' Bay Jockey Club commenced io-day ar, Hastings. There was a large attendance, notwithstanding the threatening aspect of the weather, aud all the arrangements were excellent. Just as the Napier Handicap was being run it began to rain, and soon came down heavily. There was a little cessation awhile, dug more or less it ponred down the whole of the afternoon, and people got away from the course as soon as the big race was ran. Railway Stakes, of 30 sovs. distance, |- mile. Sinking Fund ... 1 Never Miss ... ... 2 Moa , 3 Won easily by three lengths. Napier Handicap, of 150 sovs., with a sweeps akes of 5 sovs. each j added; secoud horse to receive 20 aovs. from the stakes , distauce, If miles. | Pinfire 1 Lady Elizabeth ... 3 i Lara ... ... ... 3 Six horses'. startodSinkingPund was scr itched. Pinfire gettiug iu front in the last few strides, and wiui.iug hy a neck. Lira, third. Cq hint ihan Cup, of 40 sovs.; distance, 2 miles; gentlemen riders; welter weights for age.
