FUNERAL OF TEH LATE SERGT.-MAJOR FRASER.

The funeral of the late Sergt.-Major Fraser of the Armed Constabulary, look place at Te Awamutu yestei day afternoon at 4 o'clock. There was a large attendance of members of the Volunteer Cavalry and of the Constabulary, although the funeral was nqt a tnilitary one. Settlers were also present from all parts of the district. The pall bearers weie Messrs. Rutherford, John Fisher, C. Johnson, Wether-all, Dunn, and Walter Scott. In the absence of the Rev. Mr Brady, who happened to be iu Auckland, ihe burial service was impressively read by Colonel Lyon, assisted by JVLijor Jackson and Sub.-luspe.-tor Capel. The late Sergeant-Major Fraser was a native of County Cavan, Ireland, and early joine I the Imperial army! saw service in the Crimea, and obtaining his discharge., emigrated to §outh Australia, and subsequently to New 2jsalaud, wheiv, from his thorough knowledge of drill, he was at ones appointed Drill Instructor to to the Cavalry then serving under Colonel Whitmore. An inquest had been held on tho body of deceased at Te Awamutu on Thursday. The evidence was necossarily of a painful character when the principal witness was a child of tho deceased, and we may simply state that the verdict was borne out by the evidence that the e'eceased committed the fatal act while under the influence of temporary meoital derangement. Great sympathy is felt for the family which has been thus bereaved.
