INQUEST AT RANGIRIRI.
Ax inquest was held by B. C. Beale, Esq., Coroner, 011 the 31st uit., for the purpose of enquiring into the cause of death of Robert Alexander Hill. Mary Hill being sworn, deposed : The deceased is my son ; lie was eight years of age this month. He first complained of headache on Saturday, the 19th; about Wednesday, the 23rd, he complained of a cough, but, with that exception he appeared in- his usual health, but was not able to go ab rat quite so well as usual. His cough continued to get -worse' from day to day. I fomented his chest several times and put his feet in hot water. He never expectorated, and his skin was hot and dry. He continued in- that state until Sunday, the 27th, when he-became much worse. My husband was away from home. I spoke to my brother about deceased ; he said he thought die would get better. Although deceased was very ill I thought he would recover, as two of my other children-have been in the same way. I gave deceased cream of tartar and castor oil ; he seemed to get a little better afterwards. On Monday, the 28th, spoke to my brother, Robert Muir, about procuring medical attendance, lie started ou the following morning. Between four ; and iive o'clock that -day,. Mr .Moyle came, whom I understood- to be a doctor. . .He advised bathing the i feet in mustard and water, which I did. He also I made a powder of burnt egg-shell and sugar, which I ! cave deceased; It appeared, to relieve him for about ! five minutes or so. I abo,.at. the suggestion of Mr i Movie gave kim some port wine. Half an hour after. ! this, deceased died. This was. bn~ Tuesday, the 29th October, about 5 p.m. —By the Coroner: I administered the remedies advised by Mr Moyl'e in the Belif- that lie was a niedieal man. The deceased took com-flour,., an egg,., bread and,sop, and - chicken : soup oh Sxmdar and Mobdky. also ! a fea-spoonful of honey to soften-his cough.—Robert Muir, brother of last witness, corroborated 1 her evidence. " In reply to a juror. hef ; said nothing passed-between him and* Movie about a fee.. I believe I asked. I have resided at Mr Ralph s about four months. lam employed to nutkc bricks. Previous to going to Mr Ralph's, I was employed by Air Spencer, at Luupin, as carpenter. I was loruurly a private in the 4th Waikato Regiment- I have tv diploma from the Royal Uoilege oi Surgeons oi London, but that diploma is ui Nelson. lam not on. the roll as a .Registered Medical Practitioner. l'lie re;t;OU I came lo see the deceased was because I was much pressed to do so by the last witness, and 1 did ! not wish to disoblige him. —The dury returned the j following verdict : " The deceased, Robert Alexander I Hill, died from natural causes, on Tuesday, the 29th I October, IS7-, at Rawluti, near Rungiru'i, W aikato. And the Jury regret the circumstances winch prevented proper hiedical aid being procured for the deceased."
