WELLINGTON. Monday. The wife of Mr George Hunter, member <,f the House of Representatives for Wellington, died this morning. The Wdlhujton Advertiser plant has been'bought by Mr O'Connor, member for the West Coast. Mr Miller is expected to-morrow. It is doubtful whether he will join the Ministry beyond the Session. Tuesday. The Hon. J. Hall took his seat in the Legislative Council to-day. \ Colonel Russell's seat is notified as vacant, through i-i- - r^,r,;;e of the office of Inspector of Native schools. • ■ In the House of Representatives the Hon W. Gisborne, in reply to Mr Rolleston, said that the Inspector of Lunatic Asylums, Victoria, had been requested to visit and inspect the New Zealand Asylums, and was shortly expected here. The Government would not propose to amend the Lunatics Act until his report had been received. The Public Healths JBill was read a second time to-day. It proposes a Central .Board of Health for cach province, consisting of the Superintendent, his Executive, and three members appointed by the Governor and local district boards, consisting of municipal authorities or highway boards. Extensive powers are given, and vaccination is rendered compulsory. Mr Collins has given notice of motion—embodying the conclusion arrived at. by a meeting of the goldfields members—for a reduction of the gold duty to 2s per ounce. , CHRISTOHURCH Monday. Mr Stevens declines to stand for the representation of the electoral district of Heathcote, rendered vacant by the transfer of Mr John Hall to the Upper House.. The nomination takes place on July 30. Mr. J. S. Wilson is the only candidate in the field. ' . . Tuesday. The Coleridge election has resulted as follows :— Bluett, 106; Hart, 100 ; Jebson, 49.
