From the Evening Star. GRAHAMSTOWN. Saturday, 3 p.m. The Hibernians returned to Cororuandel much chagrined at there having , been no disturbances. A volunteer had a rifle stolen from him. A number of Hibernians were armed with, cudgels, but found no opportunity of using them. The soiree was a triumphant success. WELLINGTON. Saturday. The " Post " last night contained an article in favor of declaring Auckland an infected port. It says danger may be dreaded from the Maori population getting the small-pox, and that it is necessary to protect Wellington from infection. If once passengers are landed from the Luna or Wellington there will be great danger from infection, and that therefore all vessels arriving from Auckland should be placed in strict quarantine. Recommends, if necessary, tho postponement of the meeting of the Assembly, and counsels a public i meeting at once. The Board of Health meet \ at 12 30 to consider thj question. it is j thought probable that they will order all ves- j sels trorn Auckland to be placed in strict' quarantine. 3 p.m. The Board of Health to-day, after two hours' deliberation, have made the following recommendations to the Goa ernment, viz.— That all vessels arriving from Auckland shall be quarantine , ! for twenty-four hours. Passengers, mails, &0., to be fumigated. A careful examinatian to be made if any disease exists on those on board, and if necessary the quarantine to bo prolonged. I Precautions are advised to be taken at all j ports at present unaffected by the disease at j which the Local Board of Health shall I regulate communications with any vessels arriving from Auckland. An iufluentially sig-ned requisition has been j presented to the Superintendent, requesting a public meeting to be held. j There is great dissatisfaction with the recommendations of the Board of Health, twenty-four hours' qnarantinebeing considered insufficient. The public meeting will be held on Monday. 3-10 p.m. Tho Board of Health suggests that the foregoing recommendations be only carried into effect by declaring Auckland to be an infected port. It remains now for the General Government to take the necessary steps immediately. CHRIS.TCHURCH. July 12.
