Vue vietis, woe to the conquered, was the old Roman aphorism, if there i,s any lasting picture that is the; outcome of the' day that was remembered yesterday, Anzac, it is the re-invigorat-ion of then our foes, now our allies, the Turkish people. No student of their developement can have other than a deep regard for their achievement, in rebuilding their nation. Each of its governors could better bei regarded, as the father of his province'; the way they have adopted is sincere leadership; for petty dereliction it is not imprisonment or that sorb thing, hut. an appeal to these almost wayward chldrem’s sence of rightness; that the dead animal should be removed from the highway because of the new Turkey, and it is not proper to be other than clean and alert. With our German foes it could have been the same had they really clung to leadership instead of rulers — for all that their chief man is called the Fuhrer, orleader. With the old Romans they still accept -the false doctrine that might is right an idea, last associated with Hongi and Rau par ah a in the story of New Zealand. For us in our endeavour to withstand this German vaa vietis, we echo the words of Abraham Lincoln.
“Let us have faith, that right mak°s might; and in that faith let us to the end dare to do our duty as we understand it.” Surely our choice is to he a Norway not a Denmark.
