We regret that owing to something being wrong with the power supply many of our usual features have had to • be curtailed.

Some of the local boats have been making up leeway with their catches. W|© hear that one boat was successful with over sixty fail’ size groper. Blue cod were short, but miscellaneous fish in fair supply.

The Railway Department’s advertisement in this issue draws attention to the altered running of the usual evening train from Invercargill in connection with the Invercargill Winter Races being held on Saturday, 4th May. Market Day fares will be issuable fiom the usual stations.

A successful Bring and Buy Sale on behalf of the Methodist Church was held in Walker’s sample room last Saturday afternoon. Mesdames Trail, Peterson and Wright were in charge of tliD selling. There was an interesting variety of produce and other goods. The Sale was supported by both town /and country folk and a most satisfactory financial result was obtained.

While crossing the bridge Mrs W. Smyth had the misfortune to slip, and badly bruise, her face. Dir Smyth, who bad been on a visit to Christchurch, was startled on bis return home, to see his wife with her face in bandages, but we are pleased to report that the bruises and abrasions are rapidly healing. The local Plunket Society is sponsoring a social afternoon in Fleck’s Hall to-morrow. A jumble stall, afternoon tea and numerous competitions will be provided for general entertainment. The ladies hope that their endeavour to provide funds for unexpected expenses ill connection with the Rest Room will be generously supported, and though many calls are at present being made on the generosity of contributvs they are confident that many will assist tliem.

A recent visitors to The Rocks was Dr. A. B. Lindsay, of Kala.in X.W. Caslinr, Assam. India. He was the guest of 'the Misses Meiek. Dr Lindsaj is an old Southland hoy, the son of the lat° Dev. (.f. Lindsa.v, of St. Paul s, Invercargill. With his vile he Labelled by air from Calcutta to Sydney, and arrived in New Zealand to visit their q, vll and daughter, who are students at Otago University. Dr Lindsay, who was with the Mesopotamian Forces, has stationed at Kalain for the last nine years, having taken up residence in the hill country after a long period practising his profession in Jvew Zealand > England and Bombay*

Anzac Day services were held at Thornbury, Colac Bay and Riverton, and wreaths placed on the many memorials in the district.
