THEFT OF SIX BAGS OF COAL. WELLINGTON, March 6. A fine of £lO was imposed by Mr J. EI. Luxford, S.M., on Harojd Francis Xicholls, aged 37, a ship's steward, who pleaded guilty to the theft of -Six bags of coal valued at £1 Os 6d, the property of tlio Union Company. The police stated that the accused, when chief steward on the Kakapo, got a carrier to take the coal to his home at Kilbii'nie. Ho had been seen by the captain filling bags with coal with the assistance of the cook. Counsel for the accused said his. client had already lost his position and, until the offence, had an unblemished reccrd. H 0 took full responsibility for the action and had advised the police that the cook acted under his instructions.-"
