MR AND MRS A. D. ANGUS

FAUEWELLED,

A farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs A. 1). Angus in the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon by citizens. There was a large attendance presided ove r by His Worship the Mayor (Dr Trotter), who read a number of apologies from those unable to attend. His Worship said that since Mr and Mis Angus had arrived in Riverton fomo nine years ago they had taken am active interest in the welfare of the town. Mr Angus had identified himself with the Progressive League, Golf and Anglers' Clubs, School Committee, and had fulfilled the duties of Treasurer to the Athenaeum Committee, Rocks Association and St. Mary's Anglican Church.

Mrs Angus had also taken her part in the social activities of the town, and .was connected with the Plunket Society, Girl Guides and St. Mary's Church.

His Worship in. presenting Mr Angna with a well filled wallet expressed Dest wishes for the future, welfare of Mr and Mrs Angus. His remarks were endorsed by Rev. Irwin, Drs Fossey and Gordon, Messrs L. W. Petchell, J. A. C. Mackenzie, J. A. B. Walker, T. Haywood (Thornbury), F. L. G-irvan, C. Carmody, Wyafct (manager of the Bank of JNew Zealand,' Invercargill) and Mr A. P. 0 Callaghan, his successor at Riverton. On rising t 0 reply Mr Angus was greeted with "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." He stated that he was quite overcome with the kind remarks; that had been made by the various speakers, and the substantial present subscribed by his many friends in Riverton. The past nine years had "been the happiest in his life, and he was leaving Riverton with regret. He appreciated the kind rcmaiks made about Mrs Angus. Personally he had experienced a. most enjoyable time, and what interest he had taken in the social welfare of the town had been a pleasure. Although leaving Riverton where he had made many sterling friendships, his successor, Mr A. P. O'Callaghan would fill the position with credit to> the bank and district. Mr Angus concluded by again thanking them for their kind wishes and' substantial present. Mr Angus was presented with, a fountain pen and pencil from the Athenaeum Committee. Mr J. A. C. Mackenzie, the chairman, referred td the excellent work of Mr Angus as treasurer and wished him every prosperity in. his new home.

Mr Angus was also the recipient of .a gift from the members of St. Mary's Anglican Church, having fulfilled the duties of Treasurer for a number of years.

During the week Mrs Angus was entertained by the Riverton Branch of the Plunket Society and. presented, with a bouquet of flowers by Mrs Gray on behalf of the members. She also received presentations from the Ladies' Guild of St. Mary's Church and the Girl Guides, the latter function being held at Mrs D. C. Robertson's residence on Thursday, where Mi's Angus was the guest of honour. In making' the presentation of a crystal dish Mrs Walden referred to the excellent work earned out by Mrs Angus during her residence in Riverton and expressed best wishes for her future happiness.
