AWATEA’S EVENTFUL
VOYAGE.
OPERATION, FUNERAL AND DEATH.
SYDNEY, October 9. The voyage of the Awatea from Wei- ; lington was an eventful one.
An operation on a passenger, Mr J. Keegan, for appendicitis was successfully performed by the ship’s surgeon, assisted by an . American, Dr Janns. A casket containing the ashes of Mr L. E. Reid, of Palmerston North, was consigned to the deep by the master (Captain A. H.;Da.vey) on Friday, and an aged Chinese, Ngan Chow, died from heart seizure.
