/ ' BIRTHDAY OF RIVERTON 1 BRANCH, r J I A large and happy gathering met in Fleck’s Hall on Tuesday evening to celebrate the Birthday of the Riverton i r Branch of the Women’s Division of the e Farmers’ Union. There were visiting u delegates from numerous surrounding u branches and friends of the Division members had also been invited. Miss A. McNaughton presided, and after welcom--0 ing those present, made a small presenta5 ‘ tion to Mrs Malley, a. member who is removing to Winton, and anothe r to Mrs l ' 11. More who was recently married. Throughout the evening the audience 0 enjoyed a community sing which was conducted by Mr R. Kingsland, of Inver- , cargill. He rendered several solos as did a Miss F. McKay, interludes which were 0 greatly enjoyed by the audience. Another interesting feature of the evening was an address by Miss V. ? ) Roscoe, of Invercargill, who gave a short, ' ’ talk on her visit to England during the Coronation celebrations, and also related 0 a few experiences in The countries siie f had visited on ,the Continent. Supper was provided by the ladies > of the Division, and the ceremony of 3 1 cutting the Birthday cake was performed 5 by Mrs Pro van, one of the oldest mem--1 bers, while the candles on it were blown 3 out by the youngest member of the 1 Division, Valmai Rankhurst. r . ■
