MAORI CONCERT
The Empire Theatre was packed to capacity on Monday evening, when the Methodist Maori choir gave one of their attractive concerts, under the direction of Sister Ropata (Banks * Peninsula). , The choir’s rendering of Maori songs was a real musical treat-, the harmony and volume being a revelation.
An added attraction was th e appearance of our own representative Hopepa Tutawhias (Joe Moss) who sang "Ka Mate” for his opening numberand liad to respond to two encores, singing .‘Hymns of the Old, Church Choir” and “When You Come Home,” The programme opened with the usual Karanga or call, followed by the chanting of the Lord’s Prayer, the 95th Psalm in Maori and the 23rd Psalm in English, It -would be very difficult to single out any particular! item for special mention, so suffice iti to say that the entertainment was of a very high order, and that each and every item was well received by tlm large audience.
