SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL.

The public meeting held in the Otautau Town Hall on Tuesday evening was attended by Mr E. Harrington (chairman), Mesdames _E. Harrington, Brooker and 'Jaquiery, Dr. Stewart, Messrs C. N. Lawless, W. Donnau, R. Seatter, G. Sivyer, Jno. Fisher, J. Powell, L. Tnomson, and G. Sinclair. The following were elected a Committee to erect a soldiers’ memorial in Otautau ; Mesdamtes B. Harrington, A. Harrington, Brooker and Jacquiery, Dr. Stewart, Messrs. Lawless, Donnan, R. Seatter, Sivyer, Fisher, Powell, L. Thomson, Sinclair, L. J. Brown, W. Fraser, D. McNeil, G. H. Stevens, and R. Collett.; It was decided to insert an advertisement in the Invercargill papers asking for plans and specifications ol a monument, with concrete foundation, the estimated cost to be not more than £7OO. The winning plan will he paid for. , . , , The monuttneht will be built ol Bluff granite. It was resolved to ask the local papers to request subscriptions, Dr Stewart and Messrs Lawless and Fishdr being 'appointed l a Committee to draw up a .beading for same. If £IOOO is not collected in one month it was decided that a subscription list be circulated until that sum is obtained.
