GOLF.
Notwithstanding the boisterous state of the elements there was ia good atatteudance of members at the opening of the golf season on Wednesday. The President (Mr H. E. Philp) extended! a hearty welcome to members, and expressed the hope that the season, would be an enjoyable one. To enable more work to be carried out on the greens and improving, the golf house more members were required. The thanks of the Club were due to the ladies who provided afternoon tea.
A mixed foursome was played, during the afternoon, and resulted in a win for Mansell and Miss Berndtson, who completed the round in 54. The scores were as follows: Mansell and Miss Berndtson 54 9 45 Philp and Mrs Stevens 62 9 53 Barrett and Miss Stevens 74 11 G 3 Willett and Mrs Berndtson 60 0 60 Instone and Miss Collins 65 0 65 Clifford and Mrs Barrett 60 7 53 Harrison and Mrs Willett 71 10 61 McNeil and Mrs Petchell 75 15 60
A .'meeting of the ladies was held in the gold pavilion in the afternoon, when Mrs B. Berndtson was elected captain and Mrs Stevens secretary.
