R.R.C.’S EASTER MEETING.
The weather prospects for the meeting look bright, and as the Railway Department have met the Club’s wishes with a most convenient- train service there should be a great gathering. Every horse that has accepted has arrived to fulfil his engagements, and some of the finest racing ever seen on the Riverton course will be witnessed. Visiting trainers are enthusiastic in their praise of the flat and steeplechase courses. The fine green pasture and great sole of grass, compared with the country farther north, takes their fancy, and ensures good going. The fact that Geo. Young, who is second in the list of winning jockeys for New Zealand, is to ride on Saturday lends greater interest to the flat races. Dr. Trotter, President of the Club, who has been recouping at Rotorua, will not be present at the meeting, for the first time iu twenty years, but wires wishing; the Club every success. Mrs Beatson and her staff -have been busy preparing (for the catering. Mr W. F. James, the totalisator proprietor, will have a. staff of over 55 men, and expects to put through a record amount. Mr H. Nurse, who is a native of this district, being born at Blaekwater, and who is now living at Culverden, Canterbury, will act as .Stipendiary Steward. The first race will start punctually at" 11.30, and the last race is timed to commence at 4.20. Patrons will therefore be enabled to reach home at an early hour.
