OBITUARY.

/ ’ MRS A. F. BLATCH. One of the oldest and most esteemed residents of the Qifden and Otautau district, in the person) of Mrs. A. F. Blatclf passed away after a long and patient suffering at her resilience North Jjj Otautaui, on December 10 at the ripe nge of 87 years. The deceased lady was bom in Dunedin on August 3, ISI9 and at the age ofl2 years her mother died and for some years later she lived with relations on the Taieri Plain. Her maiden name was B. M. M. A. Monson and in the year 1870 she married and settled on Cottage Brook station, where Mr. Blotch was head shepherd. They afterwards migrated to Otago Peniusu’a where they resided for 19 years. Later they journeyed South to Clifton, where they had many trials and hardships be fore they succeeded in making an ideal home. Some two years ago the de ceased lady met with an accident in which she broke her Tilp bone, from, this acciden t she never really recovered. For eighteen months she lay a patient sufferer struck down by sickness. The late Mrs. Blatcb is survived by her bus band, and 12 children, nine sous and three daughters, all of whom were born prior to coming south! Tha sons are as follows:—Henry Frederick, managing Linwood station, Allred and Ernest are managing Tora Station, near Te Anau Lake, James resides in the North Island, John has enlisted, and is now in camp in Palmerston North, Charles is a backsmith in Oiportiku, Tom has a farm at Awarua Plains, William, Dealer, Wallacetowu, and George has a carting business in Otautau. Th,e daughters are Mrs. Arthur Chilton) lied Cliff, Otautau, Mrs. Officer, ol Dipton, and Mrs. James Scobie of tau. The deceased lady though only k'jP few months in Otautau was very ly respected and it is said that no cuo ' ever went wanting when needing a helping hand. Great sympathy is i’elt for her husband and relatives in their sorrow. The funeral on Sunday was very largely attended.
