The acceptances for the W T airio Races, which take place to-morrow, are exceedingly good, and tills popular meeting will be, we hope, well patronised. Local horses are strongly represented and there is a probability of the stake foe the cup coming this way. The Steeplechase is a feature of the meeting and the horses entered are of aj class that will give a fine exhibition of jumping, if they do not possess the pace. Mr F. McKay has disposed of his Lady Seaward—Heroism mare, Lady O’Brien, to Mr T. ~lvett. It is Mr McKay’s intention to part - with Otahuti, Evening Star and Lady Seaward, which are now on tho sale list. Dr Trot Tor, the president of the Riv-* erton- Racing Club, while on Iris holiday visilad some of the most important race meetings in the North Island and has returned with information which will be useful to his club. Steeplechase horses >are making their appearance <on the local tracks—an indica. tion of the approach of the autumn meet. iagA well-known trainer has had a good laugh at his brother trainers, and the caretaker of the local course at the way in which he deceived them as to the inden tity of one of the inmates of his stable, which was ‘on the track for fire or six; weeks. When asked what was the name of that one, he quietly said “So-and-so,” but imagine thc-ir surprise when it turned up at a recent meeting in its true name.
