WALLACE MOUNTED RIFLES.
For the position of lieutenants of the Wallace Mounted Rifles, to command the Otaulau and Olifden Troops, Messrs J. M. Taylor, farmer, Aparima, A. E. Blatch farmer, Clifden, and H. M. Hall, saddler, Nightcaps, have been nominated. As there are more than the required number of candidates an election will be held at the company parade to-morrow evening. Keen interest is taken in the corps now that the strength of all mounted corps has been reduced from 63 to 43, and as there will have to be about a dozen men dismissed from the Wallace Mounted Rifles, it will be interesting to note who goes. During Captain Saunders' absence from the colony next month, Lieut. Newton will be in command of the corps. As usual, the Corps will hold their annual shooting matches at Nightcaps on 3rd June, the Prince of Wales Birthday, and the anniversary of the acceptance <>f the corps, when about Ll2 will be given ill cash prizes. The Clifden division intend holding a series of matches on their range on Good Friday to be open to all members of the corps.
