A Question of Legs.

In apartments a little off the highways of wealth and luxury a one-legged man found himself housed the other day. His bedroom was clean and comfortable ; all the toilet requisites were present in plain but essential quality. The price was moderate I and at first inspection he decided he ought to consider himself fortunate. After the first night’s occupancy, however, the crippled man hunted up the landlady, and presented a complaint. “Mrs. Brisque,” he began, “I like to stay here first-rate; your rooms are clean: the table is goodfand everything all right except my bed. The mattress is soft, springs all right, and all that; but I didn’t sleep well, the bed is unsteady—it rocks back and forth—and I looked under it this morning, and found it has only three legs. “Only three legs?” repeated the perturbed landlady in an injured tone. “Well, great goodness, that’s two more’n you’ve got.”

The largest dammed body of water in the world will be secured by the building of a dam at Cloquet, Minnesota, on the St. Louis River, 900 ft. long and 80ft. high, by which back water will be extended sixty miles.
