Fu]lartori had been appointed pupil teacher at Riverton. —In the case of Riverton the committee was informed that their average attendance did not entitle them to the service of a school mistross as asked for, —The tender of J. P. Peterson, £7l 10s, had been accepted for teacher’s residence at. North Wairio. —It was announced that, with the view of enlarging the playground at Otautan, it had been arranged to exchange section 13 for section 2G and 27, block I.—-The application for half cost of a shelter shed at Ora Id was granted. On the recommendation of the In-; spector tho following list ol hooks, for use in the public schools was-adopted : —Reading: Chatnhord Graduated Readers; .Grammar: .Mason’s First notion’s of English Grammar; Ms so p’s Derivation; and Mason’s' .'Analysis. New Zealand Geography and Petrie’s; First Geography. History—"Blackwood’s Short Stories from English History and R. S, Gardner’s Outlines of English History. Arithmetic Nelson’s B Series ; ‘and, Goyeri’s : tett hooks. Writing—Yere Foster’s copy hooks; Ward, Lock and Co.’s hooks; and Whitccombe; Tombs and Cn.’s books. Drawing—Any of tha'approved se|s< may housed... It. was added that at the discretion of the School ;Committees and teachers, Dr Richardson’s Temperance Lesson Rook : might-be used ns a special reader—but not instead of any of the books on the above list. ■ A deputation consisting of Messrs J. J. Newton, James, Flynn, and S. James, from Wrey’s Bush was introduced by Mr Newton explained that their object in appearing before’the Board was to ascertain if anything’ could be, done to rectify a hardship under which the local.teacher w as labouring.
