The Ranger reported on the dispute between Howell and party and iaylor and party as [to the right to wafer races from Doughboy Creek 1 akitmio district. His opinion was that iaylor had been first to take water from the creek. Taylor’s race tapped the creek some distance above the spot at which Howell applied for permission to construct his, and if the former were allowed to continue to K f I mi Wafcr ' tho latter would have but little water loft. One wanted six

heads o£ water and the other eight, ■while the creek was only capable of supplying about four.—Mr Finn appeared for Howell. The parties having been beard, and it appearing that the banks of the creek were private property, the Board decided not to interfere with the riparian right. As there was a prospect of gold being obtained in paying quantities, it was resolved to ask the Governor to declare the village reserve on which the parties were working, and to which they wished to take water, as open under clause 7 of the Act. Howell and party applied for permission to take eight heads of water from W aicola Creek, in the same neighborhood —Granted. Messrs Deegan and Phillips asked for protection for 50 acres of manuka swamp at the end of Lake George. Eeferred to Messrs Prew and Co., for whom the area had been reserved for sawmill purposes.
