"Wellington, Sept. 3. New forms under Property Assessment Act have been adopted, and will b 3 issued next week. Probably the time for sending in returns will be extended to middle of next month. The Post to-night says it is understood that a preliminary sale of land on Waimate Plains will be commenced on 25th of next month. The block which is to be placed in the market contains 7000acresof the finest land in the colony. The price is said to be £4 for or £5 for deferred payments extending over ten years. Chrtstcuukch, Sept. 3. A boy named Wallace, sixteen years of age, was admitted into the hospital in a comatose condition from drinking the greater portion of a bottle of brandy. He died this morning. The police made enquiries into the circumstances uuder which he obtained the brandy, and the inquest on the body was concluded this evening. The decision will be given to-morrow. Dpnedin. Sept. 3. A passenger by the barque Anne Melhuish, which arivedfrom Newcastle to-dav, jumped overboard during the passage and was drowned.
