The following is the ascertained list of insurances on the Calypso effected through Dunedin offices and firms: —Cargills, Gibbs and Co. (per Marine Insurance Company of London), £5600; do. (per open policy in London), £10,000; Lew Zealand and Australian Land Company (per open policy in' Glasgow), about £10,500; Victoria Insurance Company, £5000; South British, £4000; Globe, £2000; Union, £1745; United, £112; total, £47,357. It has beem stated, in addition, that the Batavia had a risk of £SOOO on the vessel, but the local agents know nothing of it above insurances on cargo alone, the hull being underwritten in English offices. The hearing of the charge of murder against Butler was continued to-day. To-morrow the prisoner will enter on his defence, which he says will occupy a considerable time.
