LONGWOOD NOTES.
The sale by auction of the newly*surveyed township of Longwood is announced to take place on Saturday, Ist May. We circulate in this issue lithograph plans of the township. The-site of the township is on the western side of the Pourakino, at the bridge, and is distant about four miles from Printz’s claim. The new township occupies the only open and suitable ground for miles, and it is anticipated that it will command the traffic of the mining claims.^ The work of erecting the Pioneer Battery is progressing very slowly, and it is doubtful if a crushing will be put through the mill before six weeks. The reef in Printz’s claim is improving in the south drive. The stone is much harder and the reef bettor defined as this drive proceeds. Messrs Sloan and party, who have for the last two years been working an alluvial claim near Printz’s, washed up yesterday for the first time this year. Although the exact amount of gold obtained has not been male public, it is known that tiie result is highly satisfactory. It is stated that the party of four men have cleared £4OO per man out of the claim during the jsast two years.
