Sin, —I notice,! in a recent issue of fclie “ Southland Tiraes,” the following quotation from the Dunedin “Slur”:—“Expenditure of Wallace County Council tor year ending 3Lsfc March, 1878. Bridges and roads, £411; managements, £697; | valuation and elections, £501; total export litnrc, £5,503; and that the overdraft of the Wallace County was £8,196.” Now sir, as this statement will doubtless mislead those who know nothing about the matter, I would give you the correct ' figures, which are as follows:—Roads and works, £4,111; management, £697 ; valuation and electio i expenses, £l5O 18s 31; and the overdraft was on the 21st March last, £3,196; total expenditure, £5,489, J3y giving this matter publicity you will oblige. —I am, &c.
