GOOD FRIDAY AT GUMMIE’S BUSH.
Early in the morning, coaches, drays, and other conveyances left the town crowded to their full capacity with happy children and parents and teachers on their way to Qummie’s Bash. Through the kindness of Mr Hopcroft, the proprietor of the Bush, they were enabled to meet m a spot which was suitable in ail respects for the purpose which had brought them together. An hour or two were spe;«:t iu bracing field games which sent the young people gravitating to the point where the packages of provisions had all been gathered together. Some two hundred people—young, and mere advanced in years —sat down on the grass to a bountiful repast provided for them by the ladies. As the evening drew on they.sang some hymns under the leadership of Mr Jones, and tlieir teachers delivered some brief, practical addresses which were attentively listened to by those who were present. Votes of thanks to the kind friends who had driven them out, and provided refreshments for them, and also to Mr and Mrs Hopcroft for the use of the field aud for the showers of fruit which had fallen unexpectedly upon them were all carried by hearty acclamation ; and the proceedings of the day were brought to a close with prayer.
