PLAN TO PLANT TREES

IN THE NORTH QUICK START TO BE MADE WHANGAREI, Last Night. A largely attended conference of representatives of chambers of commerce, local bodies, horticultural and kindred societies, sawmillers, and business firms from all parts of the northland was held at Whangarei to-day for the purpose of creating interest in reafforestation and the preservation of standing bush. An influential association was formed and an organised effort is to be made to have the planting of the high lands taken ‘in hand as soon as possible. It is hoped that by planting native trees, a supply ot New Zealand timbers will be assured in years to come, while meantime the flood menace will be reduced year by year as a result of the growing forests. Much enthusiasm was displayed by the delegates and the conference which was convened by the Sawmillers’ Association, was a great success.
