Mr H. M. Christie, M.P., and Mrs Christie, left to-day for Christchurch on holiday.

Mr and Mrs R. Guy, with their family, spent the Christmas holiday period in Palmerston North.

Mr and Mrs F. Fairbrother, of Otoroliong-a, and formerly Carterton, were visitors to Waipukurau at the week-end, being the guests of Mr and Mrs G. E. Fowler.

Mrs Rose Ann Gleeson, wife of Mr J. F. Gleeson, passed away recently at Masterton. The late Mrs Gleeson, who was 74 years of age, had been in failing health for quite a long time. Born in Tralee, Ireland, she came to New Zealand in 1880. Before going to Masterton 21 years ago, the family lived at Norsewood for a number of years, holding at first the license of the Crown Hotel, and later engaging in farming.

The Rev. A. Hardie, Martinborough. has been appointed to the vacant charge of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Suva. The appointment is for three years, and Mr Hardie will take up his duties in March. The appointment was made by the Victorian Presbyterian Church, which has the oversight of Fiji, on the recommendation of the mission committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.

Hearty congratulations were extended to Mr and Mrs J. Hole, of Timaru, yesterday, on the' occasion of the diamond jubilee of their wedding, which took place at Wingfield, Wiltshire, England, on December 29, 1875. They came to New Zealand in 1879, and later arrived at Timaru, where they have resided practically ever since. Mr Hole was Mayor of Timaru from 1899-1902. He has been prominently associated with many public bodies, including the Trotting Club, of which he has been president since 1915.

Mr and Mrs H. M. Shand, who are visiting Mr Alex Shand, Hatuma, and Mr and Mrs R. Swann, the latter being the guests of Mr R. Shand, Takapau Road, arrived in Waipukurau on Christmas Day from Paeroa. Mr Swann, who is well-known In Central Hawke’s Bay Rugby and athletic circles, was formerly a member of the “Waipukurau Press” staff. Mrs Swann, nee Miss Shand, as a prominent tennis player has been a visitor to the district for some years past.

A Boxing Day wedding, celebrated at “Glenore, ” the homestead of Mr and Mrs Wilfred Turner, Puketitiri, was of particular interest to the Manawatu and Pahiatua districts, as well as Hawke’s Bay people, the bride being Frances Ruth, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilfred Turner, formerly of the Pohangina Valley, and grand-daughter of the late Mr S. Bolton and Mrs Bolton, of “Oete,” Pahiatua, and the bride-

groom, Alfred* Chapman, son of Mr and Mrs Y. J. Crawford, “Clifton,” Pahiatua. Many friends and relatives from Hawke’s Bay and the Wairarapa attended to witness the ceremony, which was performed in the picturesque garden by the Rev. C. Hyde, vicar of Puketapu, and formerly of Palmerston North.
