The general inference is that a depression to the north-east has intensified somewhat, while an anticyclone extends from the northern Tasman Sea across the South Island. The forecast is for moderate to strong southerly winds; weather cloudy to overcast, with scattered rain, heavy in places in the Gisborne area; seas rough.
