FREE ISSUE OF AMMUNITION STATEMENT BY MINISTER An. arrangement made by the Defence authorities, by which there will be a free issue of 1929 small arms ammunition to rifle clubs of the Dominion for use at their butts, is expected to lessen the oft-repeated complaints of clubs as to the oldness and poor quality of the ammunition supplied. “It has been decided,” said the Minister of Defence, Hon. J. G. Cobbe, on Saturday, “to make the clubs a free issue of the 1929 ammunition on the following scale: (1) Rifle club members who fire the classification course as laid down in musketry course pamphlet and who qualify, 100 rounds. (2) Those who qualify as “marksmen” a further 100 rounds. “In addition to these grants of ammunition each approved rifle association is permitted to indent upon, the Defence Department for a free issue up to 10,000 rounds for its annual meeting. A further concession to rifle | club members takes the form of allowing them to purchase from the Defence Department up to 500 rounds per annum of small arms ammunition at a reduced price of 5/6 per 100 rounds.”
