Mr R. Pilcher, Ohura, is on a holiday visit to his parents, Mr and Airs R. Pilcher.
Lieutenant N. E. H. Loisel has resigned his commission in, the Welling-ton-East Coast Mounted Rifles.
The Waipukurau Fire Brigade desires to acknowledge with thanks a donation of 10/- from Mrs M. E, Haswell.
Mr H. Hall, of Otane, who is an inmate of the Waipukurau Hospital, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
Miss R. Godfrey has been appointed to .the nursing staff of the Hastings Memorial Hospital and commences duty next week.
Mr H. W. Gallagher, who has been lilling the position of supervisor at the Waipawa post office for some months, has been permanently appointed to the post, being a well-de-served promotion.
Mrs Wilson, a passenger on the in-ward-bound English air-mail plane which arrived at Longreach, Brisbane, on Thursday night, is making a dash from London to New Zealand to visit her son,, who was injured playing football. She will travel by steamer from Sydney.
Captain C. Al. Williamson, of the Ist Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, jJnas relincpiished the position of Quartermaster. Major A. H. Wright, V.D., from the Reserve of Officers, the North Auckland Regiment, is to be Major, with seniority from July 8, 1929, and is appointed Quartermaster of the Ist Battalion. . * Mr G. A. Maddison, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Education Bon'd, Mr W. Cuthbertson, ia member of the board, and Mr W. L. Dunn, secretary of the Education Board, will visit Waipukurau on Monday evening and confer with the District High School Committee. They will also meet Dr G. Maclean, medical superintendent of the Pukeora Sanatorium, as to the conveyance of the Sanatorium children to the local school.
Before his departure for England, to where he is returning after a six years sojourn in New Zealand, Mr Archie Welsh was entertained at a farewell evening at the home of Air amn Mrs H. Baucke, Te Kura.. The fine parsed very pleasantly playing cards. items were given by Air (Sheriff, Waipukurau. The winners of the card tournament were: Mr Arnott and M>rs Price. A dainty supper was served, and the health of Mr Welsh was "tTrunk with musical honours, all wishing him a safe and pleasant voyage. Mr Welsh was asked to accept a small gift as a memento of his stay in Te Kura. Air Welsh, in returning thanks for the good wishes and gift, said that he was sorry to leave Te Kura and would take with him. many pleasant memories. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and cheers for Mr Welsh and the host and hostess, brought a delightful evening to a • close. ’’’
