NAZI OFFICIAL SHOT OLD FRIEND OF GOERING i LONDON, May 10. i According to a despatch published in the Berne semi-official newspaper “Der Bund,’’ the German secret police have now admitted, contrary to their previous contention, that Lt. (retired) von Schimpf of the German Navy, was found shot in a wood about 12 miles from Berlin. He wfas one of the oldest friends and Nazi fellow-comrades of General Goering.

During the war he was, states “‘Der Bund,’’ employed in the contra-espion-age department of the German navy. He subsequently retained his post until he was dismissed because of “espionage services on behalf of the Nazis.’’ General Goering then entrusted to him the formation of a “secret news service’’ within the Nazi party. Once secure in this position von Schimpf, according to the newspaper, “launched a campaign of denunciation against all officials w’hom he disliked.

“Untold numbers of officials are reported to have been interned in concentration camps because of Schimpf’s accusations. The murder of General von Schleicher is 'alleged to have been engineered by von Schimpf.’’

After the Nazis camo to power Goering set up a so-called “research institute for matters appertaining to aviation”. Tn reallity, this was merely 'a special personal secret police run by Goering. At its head was von Sehimpf. The Jacob Case It was as members of this institute that von Sehintpf and Herr Heiderich, deputy chief of the Gestapo (secret police), engineered, it is alleged, the political murders of Dr Bell in Kufstein and Prof Lessing in Carlsbad and the kidnapping of the refugee journal' ist, Jacob, from Swiss territory. A few days before Easter it was discovered that important documents were missing at navlal headquarters, and tlhe inquiry brought to light the fact that von Schimpf had caused these papers <tio be removed. Von Schimpf’s affairs were inquired into, and two days later Goering ordered von Schimpf’d dismissal. “That was,” the “Bund” concludes, “the signal for the Gestapo. The moment had come to remove once and for ia.ll an unpleasant individual who knew so many secrets.”
